Job summary

Reading Safeguarding Adults Partnership Board (RSAPB) is seeking an exceptional Independent Chair to provide leadership, challenge and assurance across our multi‑agency safeguarding partnership. This part-time role offers the opportunity to influence strategy, oversee delivery of a three-year plan and drive improvements in safeguarding practice for Reading's residents.

Qualifications

• Significant senior-level experience within adult safeguarding or related fields (care, health, policing, housing, domestic abuse or regulation).
• Extensive knowledge of adult safeguarding legislation (Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Making Safeguarding Personal).
• Experience chairing complex multi-agency boards, partnerships or governance arrangements.
• Ability to influence senior leaders, hold organisations to account and drive improvement via scrutiny and assurance.
• Excellent communication, facilitation and relationship-building skills.
• Strong commitment to safeguarding, equality, inclusion and partnership working.

Responsibilities

• Chair Board meetings with strategic leadership across the partnership.
• Provide constructive challenge and independent scrutiny to ensure safeguarding arrangements are effective and accountable.
• Oversee development and delivery of the Board's Strategic Plan and Annual Report.
• Champion Making Safeguarding Personal and ensure voices of adults, carers and communities influence decisions.
• Lead oversight of Safeguarding Adults Reviews and translate learning into improvements.
• Develop strong relationships with senior stakeholders and partner organisations.
• Promote equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights across the Board.
