In-House Legal Counsel - Commercial Property
Are you a commercial property solicitor ready to take the next step in your career? Are you seeking a high-quality in-house role that offers real responsibility, engaging work, and a collaborative culture-without compromising on complexity or calibre of work?
We're working in partnership with a leading North East-based property investment and development group, known for its ambitious portfolio, impressive track record, and collegiate legal team. This is a rare opportunity to join a growing in-house legal function at a key stage in its expansion, supporting a diverse and valuable national property portfolio.
About the Opportunity
This in-house legal role offers a truly broad and rewarding scope. The successful candidate will work directly alongside an experienced team of solicitors and paralegals, providing expert legal support across the group's significant UK portfolio spanning office, retail, logistics, leisure, and residential sectors.
This is a hands-on, varied position involving:
- Acquisitions and disposals of commercial and residential property
- Landlord and tenant matters, including lease negotiations and tenancy management
- Secured lending transactions and financing structures
- Supporting commercial development projects, including new-build and refurbishment schemes
- Advising on legal risk, compliance and general commercial matters across the business
You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business, including property managers, finance professionals, and development teams. The legal team also supports the group's growing residential development arm, offering additional exposure to joint ventures, site assembly, and construction-related matters.
What's on Offer
- Exposure to high-value, complex transactions comparable to those seen in top-tier private practice
- A collaborative, stable and well-regarded in-house legal team with strong links across the business
- Career progression within a growing legal department that is central to strategic decision-making
- A supportive and professional environment, ideal for lawyers seeking meaningful work-life balance without losing the intellectual challenge
Candidate Profile
We're keen to speak to qualified solicitors with:
- At least 3 years' PQE in commercial property (though more senior applicants are very welcome)
- Experience handling a range of landlord & tenant, acquisition/disposal, and secured lending matters
- A proactive, commercial mindset and a genuine interest in expanding their skillset
- The ability to work autonomously but collaboratively within a supportive team
Desirable (but not essential) experience includes:
- Post-qualified exposure to commercial litigation
- Knowledge of developer or institutional investor clients
- Experience with corporate JVs or real estate finance
Interested?
This is a standout opportunity for a commercial property solicitor seeking a meaningful in-house role without compromise on quality of work. Whether you're currently in private practice and looking for a new challenge, or already in-house and ready to advance your career in a dynamic business environment-we'd love to hear from you.
