Job summary

KONE is offering a hands-on Improver role at Heathrow, designed to kick-start a career in the escalators industry. You'll work alongside experienced engineers, gain practical maintenance and repair skills, and progress through on-the-job coaching while supporting equipment across a busy airport site.

You will assist with fault finding, inspections and preventative maintenance, follow safety procedures, and build strong relationships with customers and site stakeholders.

Qualifications

• A strong interest in engineering and a desire to build a career in the escalator industry.
• Part-qualified (e.g., working towards NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) – preferred.
• Some mechanical/electrical experience or relevant qualification – advantageous.
• A proactive, hands-on approach with willingness to learn.
• Good communication skills and a customer-focused mindset.
• Ability to work effectively in a team within a fast-paced airport environment.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Flexibility to work the 4 on 4 off, 6am–6pm shift pattern and meet airport security requirements.

Responsibilities

• Supporting qualified escalator engineers with the maintenance, servicing, and repair of escalators across Heathrow.

• Carrying out routine inspections and preventative maintenance under supervision.

• Developing your skills through structured training and on-the-job coaching.
• Accurately recording work using KONE digital tools and systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Improver to join our Heathrow team. This role is ideal for someone looking to kick-start their career in the escalators industry with a global leader. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, gaining hands‑on experience, technical knowledge, and industry qualifications while supporting the maintenance and repair of equipment at one of the UK’s busiest and most dynamic locations.
