Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate Student Mental Health & Wellbeing Mentor to support students in Wigan schools. You will provide 1:1 and small-group wellbeing support, build trusting relationships, and help students develop coping strategies and resilience.

Ideal candidates will have experience working with children or young people in support work, mentoring, youth work or education, with excellent communication and a calm, empathetic approach.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people
• Experience in support work, mentoring, pastoral care, youth work or education
• Excellent communication and listening skills
• Calm, patient and empathetic approach
• Ability to build positive professional relationships
• Resilience and emotional awareness
• Genuine passion for supporting young peoples wellbeing

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group wellbeing support
• Build positive and trusting relationships with students
• Support students experiencing anxiety, stress, low confidence or emotional difficulties
• Help students develop coping strategies and resilience
• Provide a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space to talk
• Help students develop confidence, self-esteem and social skills
• Encourage positive engagement with education
• Work alongside teachers, pastoral teams and SENCOs
• Recognise concerns and follow appropriate safeguarding procedures
• Signpost students to appropriate support when required
