Job summary

North Yorkshire Council seeks a Project Engineer for its Electrical Engineering team within Highway Operations. You will oversee contractors for street lighting installs and routine maintenance, ensure testing and records are kept, and advise on improvements to the lighting network.

The role supports energy-reduction initiatives and welcomes flexible working arrangements across the council area, with the base at the Leeming Bar Street Lighting Depot.

Qualifications

• Electrical qualification such as HNC/ONC in Electrical Engineering, City & Guilds, or equivalent.
• Proven experience in street lighting maintenance and contract management.
• Ability to analyse information and make decisions that influence projects.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the work of our contractor on new street lighting installations and maintenance.
• Ensure effective delivery of ongoing street lighting maintenance and inspections.
• Conduct electrical and structural testing at required intervals and resolve defects.
• Advise design teams on improvement projects including new lighting for housing developments.
• Maintain accurate records of assets and works to support future maintenance and adoption.
• Liaise with internal and external clients including parish councils and consultants.
• Support energy-reduction and carbon-management programmes, including LED initiatives.
