Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking a Project Engineer within its Electrical Engineering team in Highway Operations. You will manage street lighting installations, coordinate contractor activities, and ensure maintenance is delivered safely and efficiently.

The role includes maintaining asset records and liaising with internal and external clients. You’ll have an electrical qualification and experience in lighting maintenance and contract oversight, with a willingness to learn and adapt to new

Qualifications

• Electrical qualification such as HNC/ONC in Electrical Engineering, City & Guilds, or equivalent.
• Proven experience in street lighting maintenance and contract management.
• Confidence working with new technology, systems and software.
• Ability to analyse information and make sound decisions that influence projects and people.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the work of our contractor on street lighting installations and maintenance.
• Ensure effective delivery of ongoing street lighting maintenance.
• Ensure electrical testing, structural testing and inspections are carried out at required intervals and defects resolved.
• Identify and advise on improvement projects for housing developers and the network.
• Maintain accurate records of installed assets and completed works.
• Liaise with internal clients and external organisations such as parish councils and developers.
• Support energy-reduction and carbon-management programmes including LED replacement.
