Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Bury, supporting primary and secondary pupils with a range of SEN. You will work 1:1 and in small groups to help pupils engage with learning and build confidence.

The role requires experience with children or young people with SEN and comfort with personal care tasks. A caring, patient approach and willingness to undertake safeguarding training are essential.

Qualifications

• Essential: Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN in educational, care or specialist setting.
• Desirable: Experience supporting personal care routines (toileting, changing, personal hygiene).
• Desirable: A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, Health and Social Care, or related subject.
• Knowledge of SEN including autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, communication difficulties and complex needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with additional needs.
• Assist teachers with adapted learning activities and EHCP targets.
• Support pupils with personal care, including toileting, washing, dressing and continence needs.
• Help pupils develop communication, social interaction, self-care and independent living skills.
• Encourage participation and maintain a calm, inclusive learning environment.
• Support mobility and physical needs following care plans and school guidelines.
• Observe progress and report concerns to staff.
