Job summary

Swindon Academy is seeking a committed Teaching Assistant to support pupils in the secondary phase, working with the class teacher to deliver planned activities and targeted interventions.

The ideal candidate will hold GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above, strong literacy and numeracy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.

The role is 35.5 hours per week, term-time only, with a pro rata salary of £21,169 to £25,915 per annum (pay award pending).

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above.
• Very good literacy and numeracy.
• Some previous experience with young people is desirable.
• Understanding of how students learn or teaching experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher, adjusting activities according to the needs of the students.
• Work with individuals or groups of students to deliver intervention programmes in order to raise attainment.
• Provide differentiated support to students, both individually and within groups.
• Establish & maintain positive relationships with all students.
• Provide feedback to students in relation to attainment and progress under teacher guidance.
• Provide feedback to students in intervention groups with regard to their attainment and progress on intervention programmes.
• Support pupils with activities which develop literacy and numeracy skills.
• Promote the inclusion and acceptance of students with special needs within the classroom, ensuring access to lessons and their content through appropriate clarification, explanation and resources.
• Promote positive pupil behaviour in line with academy policies for culture for learning.
• Write reports and maintain records as required.
• Monitor and record pupil responses and learning achievements, resolving all but the most complex problems independently.
