Job summary

Action for Children in Edinburgh is seeking a Residential Support Worker for day shifts. You’ll help young people feel safe, supported and encouraged during short breaks, planning activities and contributing to consistent support plans with CAMHS ID and Behaviour Consultants.

You’ll receive a full induction, ongoing training, and opportunities to pursue qualifications, with regular supervision, team meetings and peer support as you grow in your role.

Qualifications

  • Must have worked in a care setting and be able to build trusting relationships with young people.
  • Strong communication with young people and families, keeping everyone informed.
  • Able to find solutions and work with the team to resolve issues.
  • Remain calm, steady and supportive in challenging moments.
  • If you do not have the Level 3 Diploma, you must be prepared to complete it within 2 years with full support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and coordination of care, assess needs, monitor progress, and manage risk.
  • Collaborate with other agencies and produce clear information for families (reports/analyses).
  • Participate in professional meetings and represent young people’s needs and views.
  • Support young people in daily activities to help them feel safe and understood.
  • Maintain clear communication with colleagues and professionals to build positive relationships.
  • Think creatively and approach challenges with a calm, solution-focused mindset.
