Job summary

Calanais Visitor Centre in the United Kingdom (Scotland) is seeking a part-time Cleaning Operative to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for visitors and staff. The role covers seasonal hours (9 per week April–Sept, 8 per week Oct–Mar) with early morning or evening shifts Monday–Saturday.

Qualifications

• Ability to maintain consistently high standards of cleanliness.
• Ability to work independently and manage cleaning tasks within time constraints.
• Reliable and able to work Monday-Saturday, early mornings or evenings as required.
• Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a wider team.
• Understanding of health and safety in the workplace.
• Ability to follow cleaning procedures and COSHH requirements.

Responsibilities

• Clean public, staff and operational areas in line with cleaning schedules and requirements.
• Vacuum, sweep, mop, and maintain floors and surfaces to a high standard.
• Clean and sanitize toilets and washrooms, replenishing consumables.
• Empty waste and recycling bins and dispose of waste appropriately.
• Carry out deep-cleaning tasks and clean internal windows and glass surfaces when required.
• Undertake cleaning of entrance and external areas, including litter picking where necessary.
• Use cleaning products and equipment safely, following COSHH and health and safety procedures.
• Follow lone-working, keyholding and alarm procedures where applicable.
• Report maintenance issues, hazards or damage promptly.
• Monitor cleaning supplies and advise when stock replenishment is required.
• Support additional cleaning requirements during busy periods, events or operational needs.
