Job summary

North Somerset Council is seeking a dedicated nursery practitioner for Early Birds Nursery at Long Ashton. The role runs 8am–6pm in an all-year-round, authority-maintained setting with support from experienced leadership and ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities include supporting care and education for 0-5 year olds, partnering with parents, and ensuring observations drive progress. The position requires safeguarding awareness and commitment to high-quality practice within a

Qualifications

  • Maths and English GCSE grade C or above, or equivalent.
  • Experience of working with children aged 0-5 and their families.
  • Ability to observe and record children’s learning and development; produce reports (IPP).
  • Understanding of North Somerset’s Early Help process and safeguarding requirements.
  • Awareness of EYFS, SEND, Prevent Duty and safeguarding guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning the curriculum and delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.
  • Take a lead on an area of learning and development across the Nursery.
  • Act as a Keyworker for a group of children and liaise with parents/caregivers.
  • Conduct observations of children's learning and development and plan next steps.
  • Ensure activities are safe, compliant with policies, and support outstanding provision.
  • Lead on maintaining high-quality provision and document children’s learning experiences.
  • Promote positive values and inclusive practice within the nursery team.
