Job summary

Lewisham is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join its secondary school from September 2026. You will support students with SEND in class and small groups, assist teachers, adapt resources and help pupils access the curriculum.

This full-time, term-time only role offers strong CPD, a supportive leadership team and opportunities for career progression within education. A patient, collaborative and safeguarding-minded approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people, ideally within a school environment.
• Experience supporting students with SEND, including autism, ADHD, SEMH or learning difficulties, is desirable.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patient, caring and resilient approach.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
• Good organisational skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children and young people.

Responsibilities

• Support students with SEND both within the classroom and in small group or 1:1 interventions.
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
• Adapt learning resources to meet individual student needs.
• Encourage student engagement, confidence and independence.
• Promote positive behaviour and support the school's behaviour policy.
• Collaborate with teachers, the SEND team and external professionals.
• Monitor student progress and record observations.
• Provide pastoral support and create a safe, positive learning environment.
• Support students during breaktimes, visits and school activities.
