Job summary

Academics in Widnes is seeking a proactive SEND Learning Support Assistant to support children with additional needs in a range of schools. You will provide 1:1 emotional and educational support, helping pupils access activities and develop independence.

Experience in a specialist SEND setting, a warm, patient approach, and reliability are essential. An enhanced DBS is required, and you will work as part of a team to monitor progress and promote safeguarding.

Qualifications

• Have previous experience in a classroom setting, particularly working with children with additional needs.
• Prior experience in a 1:1 role.
• Have a warm, empathetic and compassionate approach to children with SEND.
• Be resilient and adaptable, with the ability to change their approach to accommodate a child's individual needs.
• Be based in the Widnes area or have reliable transport routes.

Responsibilities

• Personalised support - adapting activities and communication styles to meet the specific needs of the child you are supporting.
• Empowering independence - guiding pupils through their daily school routine.
• Collaborative working - working closely with classroom teachers to monitor progress and celebrating every milestone, whether that be big or small.
• Personal care - Some students may require elements of personal care which you will support day-to-day.
