Job summary

Cadent Gas Ltd is seeking an IIoT Systems Architect to lead the convergence of OT and IT, shaping the target‑state architecture for Industrial IoT and ensuring OT/IT alignment across the gas distribution network.

You will operate within the Enterprise Architecture and Transformation function, steering strategic decisions, roadmaps and governance to support Cadent’s net zero ambitions and regulatory commitments.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in enterprise or domain architecture roles within complex industrial or operational environments.
• Deep understanding of OT and IIoT systems including SCADA, PLCs, RTUs, telemetry systems and data historians. Experience with edge‑to‑cloud architectures, edge computing and edge analytics.
• Knowledge of industrial protocols such as MQTT, OPC UA, Modbus and DNP3. Understanding of connectivity technologies including LoRaWAN, NB‑IoT and 5G. Experience aligning architecture to NIS regulations, NCSC CAF, IEC62443 and ISO 27001.
• Strong grasp of data platform architecture, integration patterns, standardisation and contextualisation.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, meaningful insight for senior decision‑makers.

• End‑to‑End Architecture Ownership – Define capability models, reference architectures and roadmaps that guide delivery across short, medium and long‑term horizons.
• Modern, Connected Technology Landscape – Lead architectural thinking across edge computing, IIoT platforms, cloud integration and data architecture.
• Security & Resilience at the Core – Embed cyber resilience and regulatory compliance into IIoT design, supporting Critical National Infrastructure requirements.
• Thought Leadership – Influence Cadent’s Industry 4.0 and OT digitalisation journey, evaluating emerging technologies and setting future direction.
• Collaboration & Mentorship – Work closely with enterprise, domain and solution architects, while mentoring teams and building architectural capability.

Sitting within our Enterprise Architecture and Transformation function, this role is all about defining the target‑state architecture for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and ensuring operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) work seamlessly together.

This is a strategic, influential position at the heart of our Securing Operations transformation programme. You’ll work with senior leaders across the business to align technology investment, digital transformation and operational priorities, helping Cadent deliver against its net zero ambitions, regulatory obligations and long‑term sustainability goals.

From edge devices in the field through to enterprise and cloud platforms, you’ll shape how data is generated, secured, integrated and exploited across the organisation – enabling a more connected, insight‑driven network.
