Job summary

Horton Housing is recruiting a Housing Officer in Halifax for a permanent part-time role (3 days/week, 21 hours). The post oversees safety checks, rent queries, and tenancy administration, reporting to the Scheme Manager.

The role requires strong housing management knowledge, effective communication with tenants, and a proactive approach to health and safety. The full-time equivalent salary is £27,588; part-time pro rata is £16,552.80 per annum, with 6 weeks holiday plus bank holidays and access

Responsibilities

  • Carry out regular property checks to ensure safety and H&S compliance.
  • Observe and report repairs and hazards promptly.
  • Lead health and safety checks including alarms and legionella testing.
  • Conduct welfare checks and liaise with tenants and Rents team on queries.
  • Assist with referrals, assessments, tenancy sign-ups and anti-social behaviour.
  • Manage void properties: cleaning, furnishing and re-let activities.

Job description

Job Introduction

Horton Housing are currently recruiting for a Housing Officer, who will be able to demonstrate previous experience and a solid understanding of housing management, including health and safety, hazard reporting and rent queries, and the management of anti-social behaviour.

The contract will be offered on a permanent part time basis. There is flexibility around working 3 full days per week (across Monday to Friday - 7 hours per day / 21 hours per week). The full time salary is £27,588.00 (pro rata to a part time salary of £16,552.80 per annum). You will also be entitled to 6 weeks holiday, plus bank holidays (pro rata for part time contracts) and full access to our Employee Assistance Programme.

Based in Halifax, and reporting to the Scheme Manager, your responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Undertaking regular property checks to ensure that properties are safe and within our health and safety regulations
  • Observe and report necessary repairs and hazards
  • Lead on health and safety checks, including fire alarm testing and legionella checks
  • Complete welfare checks for our tenants
  • Liaise with tenants and our Rents team to resolve rent queries and arrears
  • Completing necessary reporting and data entry
  • Assist with the management of referrals and assessments, including tenancy sign-ups
  • Assist tenants on an ad-hoc basis in partnership with Support Workers, including anti-social behaviour and welfare applications
  • Manage void properties including cleaning, furnishing and re-stocking to ensure voids are re-let as soon as reasonably possible
