Job summary

ACCOTS Duty Consultant role based at the East Midlands base in Castle Donington is hosted by University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The post requires Full GMC registration with a license to practise and specialist training in Intensive Care Medicine or Anaesthesia, with additional qualification in retrieval/transfer medicine.

You will provide clinical leadership, triage, and co-ordination for critical care transfers.

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration with license to practise.
• Specialist register entry in Intensive Care Medicine or Anaesthesia.
• Higher qualification in retrieval/transfer medicine.
• Formal training or postgraduate qualification in leadership and management.
• Relevant specialist courses (ALS, European Trauma Course, ultrasound, difficult airway).

Responsibilities

• Act professionally when interacting with service users.
• Receive referrals and allocate transfer resources; provide clinical/logistical advice.
• Follow service SOPs around referral handling and clinical pathways.
• Manage tasking of clinical transfer teams.
• Maintain high-quality clinical records.
• Engage in induction and ongoing professional development.
• Provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary transfer team.
• Develop and implement treatment plans with the team.
• Ensure adherence to clinical pathways and regional SOPs.
• Ensure safe, timely transfer of critically ill patients.
