Job summary

Darlington Memorial Hospital, part of Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, is recruiting a Consultant Anaesthetist with a strong interest in Intensive Care Medicine. You will provide consultant-led ICU care for a mixed medical and surgical take and deliver anaesthesia across district general specialties, including trauma and emergency surgery.

The post involves on-call ICU duties (1:12) with weekend day sessions, supervision of juniors, teaching, audits, and research.

Qualifications

• MBBS/MBChB or equivalent.
• FRCA or equivalent registration.
• Full GMC registration with licence to practise; Specialist GMC in anaesthesia.
• CCT attained or within six months of the CCT date.

Responsibilities

• Consultant-led intensive care for patients from the mixed medical and surgical take at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
• Anaesthesia sessions across district general specialities including trauma and emergency surgery.
• Intensive care on-call at 1:12, evenings/nights 18:00–08:00 and 12-hour weekend day sessions.
• Clinical work with consultant, specialty and trainee colleagues to maintain and develop the intensive care service.
• Continuing responsibility for care of patients in your charge and for safe continuity of care.
• Supervision of junior medical staff, including training and clinical supervision.
• Participation in teaching, M&M meetings and clinical governance.
• Research, clinical audit, service development and innovation.
