Job summary

Darlington Memorial Hospital, part of Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, seeks a consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care to cover elective and emergency surgery. The post includes a fixed continuity ICU rota, on-call duties for ICU and paediatric stabilisations, and teaching responsibilities.

Applicants should hold FRCA with FCICM/EDIC or equivalent, GMC registration, and be prepared for non-clinical development in governance, research, and management within the Trust.

Qualifications

• MBBS/MBChB or equivalent qualification.
• FRCA and FCICM or EDIC certification.
• Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
• Specialist GMC registration in anaesthesia and intensive care.
• CCT attained or due within 6 months of interview.
• Evidence of appraisal and GMC revalidation.

Responsibilities

• Provide consultant-led anaesthesia across elective and emergency lists.
• Work an intensive care rota with a fixed continuity week and sessions.
• Cover on-call for intensive care and paediatric stabilisations.
• Supervise and train junior medical staff with patient-care responsibility.
• Deliver anaesthetic cover for elective lists at DMH when needed.
• Deputise for colleagues and take on additional duties in emergencies.
• Participate in teaching, governance and clinical audit.
• Develop services and research; support innovation in the Trust.
• Progress to non-clinical roles in teaching, governance, and management.
• Carry out administrative duties linked to patient care.
