Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Associate Hydrologist to lead hydrological assessments across the UK and internationally. You will guide flood risk work, influence infrastructure planning, and mentor junior staff within a growing Water team.

You’ll be based in a UK or Ireland office with a flexible hybrid model, collaborating with engineers and scientists to deliver impactful water projects that shape communities and economies.

Qualifications

• Experience leading the estimation of flood flows using FEH and REFH2 for flood mapping and reservoir engineering.
• Significant leadership experience in hydrological assessments and flood risk.
• Strong GIS proficiency with QGIS/ArcGIS/MapInfo.
• Chartered ICE or CIWEM membership and professional credibility.

Responsibilities

• Technically lead or verify flood hydrological assessments for flood alleviation schemes and reservoir engineering.
• Review or verify reports documenting hydrological assessments.
• Support Water team in business development for national and international projects.
• Mentor staff in hydrological estimation and professional development.
• Build relationships with clients and cross-disciplinary teams.
• Stay up-to-date with legislation and guidelines affecting services.
• Deliver thought leadership and represent AECOM at conferences.
• Drive innovation including AI solutions within the team.
• Be active in our global hydrologists community via TechEx.
