Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is seeking a Hydraulic Modeller in Manchester to join a leading multidisciplinary consultancy. The role focuses on developing 1D/2D hydraulic models, flood risk assessments, and drainage modelling across UK projects, with clear opportunities for technical progression.

You will work on diverse flood risk and water environment schemes, applying Flood Modeller and TUFLOW, GIS tools, and robust reporting. Manchester-based, with a route to career growth within a supportive team.

Qualifications

Degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Hydrology, Environmental Engineering or related discipline.
Experience in hydraulic modelling or flood risk consultancy.
Experience with Flood Modeller and/or TUFLOW.
Good understanding of UK flood risk and drainage principles.
GIS experience with ArcGIS or QGIS would be beneficial.
Strong technical report writing skills.
Good communication and project management skills.
Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

Developing and running 1D and 2D hydraulic models.
Flood risk assessments and flood mapping.
Surface water, fluvial and drainage modelling.
Model build, verification, calibration and sensitivity testing.
Analysis and interpretation of hydraulic modelling outputs.
Preparing technical reports and flood risk assessments.
Supporting the development of drainage and flood mitigation schemes.
Working with GIS data and producing flood mapping.
Liaising with clients, local authorities and other project stakeholders.
Supporting multidisciplinary teams across wider water and infrastructure projects.
