Job summary

The Council of East London is seeking a Systems Accountant to join the Financial Policy & Transformation team. You will manage and optimise the Council's financial systems, ensure data integrity, and support robust reporting for statutory and management needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field with at least one year's finance experience.
• Part-qualified CCAB accountant with at least one year's finance experience.
• Fully qualified AAT Level 4 with at least two years' finance experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and administer the Council's financial systems, ensuring accuracy, integrity and compliance.
• Manage user access, approval workflows, chart of accounts structures and financial system configurations.
• Perform data validation, cleansing activities and integrity checks to ensure reliable financial information.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and investigation of discrepancies.
• Produce and analyse financial data to support statutory reporting, management reporting and financial decision-making.
• Develop reports, dashboards and analytical tools for finance teams and senior stakeholders.
• Provide technical support and guidance to finance and non-finance users.
• Deliver training and support materials to improve system knowledge and user confidence.
• Support financial systems projects, automation initiatives and process improvement programmes.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards, governance requirements and internal controls.
• Work collaboratively with corporate services and IT to maintain system integrations and resolve technical issues.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
