Job summary

BAE Systems Digital Intelligence is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to support and maintain critical services. The role emphasizes automating repeated tasks, improving availability and performance, and advising product teams on best practices for scalable systems.

You will work with AWS/Azure/OpenStack, Docker, ELK, and automation tools, while engaging in DevOps practices within a hybrid/MANCHESTER-based environment with flexible arrangements.

Qualifications

• Experience in software development using Java and web technologies (JavaScript/HTML).
• Familiarity with database technologies such as Elastic and Mongo.
• Hands-on Linux and Windows CLI skills (Bash/PowerShell).
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/OpenStack).
• Experience with deployment tools (Chef/Puppet).
• Expertise in monitoring large systems (ELK).
• Experience in Agile Scrum with Jira.
• Ability to diagnose/troubleshoot outages and issues across stacks.
• Troubleshooting across multiple layers of the stack.
• Understanding ITIL terminology.
• Experience with container management and microservices (Docker).
• Experience extending/open source software.
• Familiarity with automation test frameworks (Selenium).
• Awareness of tech trends and adopting new tools.

Responsibilities

• Support and maintain essential services to improve availability, performance and stability.
• Automate repetitive tasks and develop innovative solutions.
• Advise product teams on good practice for designing and building systems.
• Instrument applications to monitor performance and demonstrate improvements daily.
• Understand software-infrastructure relationships to ensure scalability and resilience.
• Optimize infrastructure to get the best out of deployed systems.
• Participate in the DevOps/SRE community within the organization.
• Apply software and systems engineering to reduce manual operations.
• Limit on-call activity to no more than half of their time.
