Job summary

Kohler Mira in Cheltenham is seeking a Staff Engineer to join the Continuous Product Development team. This senior role leads cross-functional design projects across brands, from concept through implementation, to deliver lifecycle improvements.

You will own value engineering, manage complex changes, provide technical direction, and mentor engineers. The role is hybrid onsite in Cheltenham with travel to support business needs, reporting to the CPD Manager.

Qualifications

• A degree, apprenticeship or equivalent professional qualification in engineering.
• Substantial engineering experience, typically more than six years, including responsibility for complex product or design changes in regulated environments.
• Experience leading design engineering projects from concept through detailed design, validation and implementation.
• Structured root cause analysis, risk assessment and validation planning.
• Experience producing and reviewing controlled engineering documentation and applying standards to practical actions.
• Strong decision-making and prioritisation skills; clear communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional design engineering projects from concept through implementation and benefit realisation.
• Identify improvement opportunities; define benefit, priority and feasibility, drive projects to completion.
• Own value engineering and lifecycle cost activity; redesign products for cost savings without compromising safety.
• Lead technically complex changes, investigate issues and implement proportionate solutions.
• Act as product-development technical authority with Manufacturing, SQA and Approvals teams.
• Ensure engineering changes are compliant, controlled and auditable with proper documentation.
• Collaborate with suppliers to define technical expectations and cost improvements.
• Use customer feedback and warranty data to measure impact of changes.
• Support handover from NPD into CPD and retain design intent and learnings.
• Improve CPD and NPD methods, maintaining rigour and efficiency.
• Provide technical leadership through coaching and design reviews.
