Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Birmingham is seeking an experienced Project HSE Manager to lead health, safety and environmental activities across major energy infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle.

You will develop HSE strategies, coordinate with customers and subcontractors, manage budgets and documentation, and coach project teams to build a strong safety culture while delivering on tender and project requirements.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH or equivalent HSE qualification (Level 6 preferred).
• 5+ years' experience in a similar HSE role within large-scale projects.
• Strong understanding of HSE management in engineering, construction, infrastructure, power or utilities.
• Knowledge of ISO 45001; Internal Auditor certification is advantageous.
• Formal Incident Investigation training and experience producing HSE documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and implementation of project HSE strategies across the lifecycle.
• Collaborate with customers during tender phases, interpreting HSE requirements.
• Prepare and submit high quality HSE tender documentation and project plans.
• Represent Hitachi Energy in customer meetings and project reviews as HSE SME.
• Define HSE scopes for subcontractors and align with project expectations.
• Manage project HSE budgets and resource planning to support delivery.
• Maintain HSE management documents, including Project HSE Plans and ERPs.
• Work with engineering on HAZID and design reviews to mitigate risks.
• Build and lead the project HSE framework across all phases.
• Champion compliance with legal, contractual and company HSE requirements.
• Analyse project performance and provide strategic HSE insights.
