Job summary

ERSG Ltd is seeking a head of HSE to lead the UK strategy, translate objectives into priorities, standards and improvement plans, and report to senior leadership.

You will oversee HSE management systems, audits and performance reporting across the UK, develop and coach HSE teams, and drive a proactive safety culture across projects and contractors. You will work with directors, clients and regulators to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Significant senior HSE leadership experience in high-risk industries.
  • Experience developing and implementing HSE strategy across multiple projects/sites.
  • Strong understanding of UK HSE legislation and risk management.
  • Experience leading and developing HSE teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to drive improvements through governance and engagement.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
  • Chartered IOSH status.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop and support HSE managers and wider teams, establishing clear expectations and promoting accountability.
  • Drive improvements in safety culture, leadership engagement, contractor management and risk control.
  • Oversee significant incident investigations, ensuring root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with project directors, leaders, clients and contractors to maintain and improve HSE standards.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and industry guidance to ensure timely response.
  • Use performance data to identify trends and support continuous improvement.

Job description

  • Oversee significant incident investigations, ensuring appropriate root-cause analysis, corrective actions and lessons learned.
  • Work with project directors, operational leaders, clients, contractors and relevant external stakeholders to maintain and improve HSE standards.
  • Monitor changes in legislation, industry guidance and emerging risks, ensuring the business responds appropriately.
  • Use performance data and assurance findings to identify trends, address weaknesses and support continuous improvement.
Experience and qualifications
  • Significant senior HSE leadership experience within renewable energy, power, major construction, civil engineering, utilities or a related high-risk industry.
  • Experience developing and implementing HSE strategy across multiple projects, sites, regions or business units.
  • Strong understanding of UK HSE legislation, risk management, contractor assurance and management systems.
  • Experience leading and developing HSE teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Experience improving HSE performance through effective leadership, governance and engagement.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or an equivalent
  • Chartered IOSH status
