Job summary

Birmingham City Council is seeking an Associate Governance and Assurance Lead to strengthen procurement governance, manage commercial risk and provide assurance across complex procurement activity.

You’ll review business cases, advise on legislation, and work with Procurement, Finance and stakeholders to ensure decisions are compliant and deliver value for money. The role offers a permanent contract, 36.5 hours per week, and hybrid working.

Qualifications

• Experience in commercial procurement, governance or contract management across end-to-end lifecycle.
• Ability to assess and mitigate risks to ensure value for money.
• Knowledge of procurement legislation and governance frameworks and their application.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve procurement governance frameworks, processes and controls.
• Review business cases, sourcing strategies and contract awards for compliance and risk.
• Provide guidance on procurement legislation, governance requirements and assurance processes.
• Identify and assess procurement, financial, operational and contractual risks; propose controls.
• Coordinate assurance activities and documentation to high standards.
• Collaborate with Procurement, Finance and stakeholders to inform decisions.
• Develop guidance and mentor team to embed governance improvements.
