Job summary

Neath Port Talbot Council is seeking a motivated Pollution Control Officer to join the General Environmental Health team. You will regulate low to medium risk activities, assess information, respond to enquiries and provide guidance to colleagues and the public.

Responsibilities include site inspections, permit reviews, planning observations, contaminated land work, and reporting. A HND or higher in environmental science/health is required, plus a driving licence and flexibility to work outside

Qualifications

• HND or higher qualification in Environmental Health, Environmental Science or equivalent.
• Experience with environmental permitting regulatory work and site inspections.
• Experience in contaminated land functions including investigation and development consultations.
• Ability to interpret technical documents and produce clear technical reports.
• Strong organisational, IT, record-keeping and written/verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team and independently with sound judgement.
• Current driving licence and willingness to work outside normal hours.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking site inspections and reviewing permits for low to medium risk activities.
• Assessing information submitted through planning and development management.
• Reviewing information related to contaminated land and discharge of conditions.
• Investigating enquiries and complaints concerning contaminated land and permits.
• Preparing technical reports, correspondence, statutory notices and case records.
• Assisting with air pollution monitoring, equipment maintenance and sampling when required.
