Job summary

Neath Port Talbot Council is seeking a Health & Safety Enforcement Officer to join the General Environmental Health team in the Environment and Regeneration Directorate. The role covers environmental health, housing, pollution and health and safety, including visits, notices, and evidence handling.

Hybrid working from The Quays and various Council workplaces is available. You will manage casework, maintain records, attend court where required, and contribute to performance data and service

Qualifications

• Experience in environmental health enforcement or similar field.
• Qualified at HNC/diploma or higher in Environmental Health/Health & Safety.
• GCSEs including English or Welsh (4 or more).
• Strong organisational and time-management skills with adaptability.
• Good communication with colleagues, elected Members and public, even in challenging situations.

Responsibilities

• Carry out visits, revisits and inspections across general environmental health, housing, pollution and health and safety.
• Lead in an allocated area of general environmental health and maintain knowledge/expertise.
• Prepare and issue statutory notices, reports, and statements; attend court when needed.
• Maintain accurate case records, registers and performance data.
• Support service plans, targets and environmental health initiatives.
• Assist with internal/external data returns and service information.
• Work in line with procedures including health and safety, confidentiality and information handling.
• Represent the section on working groups and provide updates.
• Undertake training and participate in out-of-hours arrangements if required.
