Job summary

Wealden District Council is seeking a Planning Enforcement Officer to investigate breaches of planning control across urban and rural settings, delivering robust but proportionate actions.

You will prepare reports, present schemes to planning committees when required, and negotiate with contraveners to achieve best outcomes while maintaining high standards of service. Hybrid working is offered.

Qualifications

• Experience in planning and enforcement within development management context.
• Strong customer service skills for handling conflicting demands.
• Knowledge of planning law, policy and guidance related to planning.
• Excellent communication and negotiation to achieve robust outcomes.
• Experience defending council actions at appeal or via legal proceedings.

Responsibilities

• Investigate breaches of planning control in urban and rural settings.
• Prepare reports to make recommendations on appropriate enforcement proceedings, presenting those schemes to planning committee where required.
• Provide advice and conducting negotiations with contraveners to achieve the best possible outcomes and deliver high-quality customer service.
• Liaise with residents, officers from other service sections, elected members, and external bodies ensuring progress updates.
• Provide informal support and mentoring for junior officers.
