Job summary

Nationwide Building Society is seeking a Deputy Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations and deliver a best-in-class service with strong compliance and colleague experience. You will deputise for the Head of Payroll and Benefits, guiding payroll projects and a team of specialists in a regulated environment.

You’ll collaborate with teams across People, Finance and Tax, manage reconciliations, reporting, controls and audits, and support change initiatives while upholding service excellence.

Qualifications

• Significant payroll experience with knowledge of payroll legislation, controls and compliance.
• Experience leading or developing teams and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret data and provide insights for decision-making.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills across stakeholders.
• Strong organisational skills to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead payroll operations to ensure accurate, compliant and timely service.
• Deputise for Head of Payroll and Benefits; drive payroll-related projects and system enhancements.
• Manage and develop Payroll Specialists; promote continuous improvement and high service levels.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners (HMRC, auditors, vendors) to ensure payroll integrity and regulatory compliance.
