Job summary

South Yorkshire Police is seeking a payroll clerk to contribute to three monthly payrolls at Carbrook HQ, Sheffield. The role supports Payroll Team in ensuring accurate payments in line with Home Office Regulations, applicable policies, and employment law.

The ideal candidate will have payroll experience in a fast-paced environment, with willingness to pursue CIPP certification and strong data accuracy. Hybrid working arrangements apply with a 12-month temporary contract.

Qualifications

• Willingness to work towards CIPP Payroll Technician Certificate.
• Previous Payroll experience in a similar sized organisation and dealing with large volume data inputting.
• Experienced in high volume overtime and expenses claims processing.
• Experience with a computer-based payroll/expenses system and data input accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out variation inputs to employee records in Oracle for three payrolls.
• Set up new Police Pensioners and change personal details; perform quality checks of payroll data.
• Audit Oracle expense claims (mileage, allowances) in line with legislation and policy.
• Administer overtime claims; ensure submissions are checked, coded and entered on time.
• Ensure monthly reporting to third party deductions and external stakeholders.
• Print and post payslips and P60s, for leavers or those unable to access Oracle.
• Prepare paperwork for external payments and obtain necessary authorisation.
• Handle payroll queries via phone and email from Officers and Staff.
• Provide guidance on Police Regulations and Force Policy relating to pay.
• Develop relationships with Payroll Officers, HR, Pension, and stakeholders.
• Contribute to Payroll Procedures and ERP system manuals and ensure compliance.
