Job summary

South London Local Authority is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join the payroll service, ensuring staff are paid accurately and on time and compliant with legislation. The role combines on-site and remote work (hybrid 2-3 days on-site per week).

You will be the first contact for staff and departments, offering specialist payroll advice and handling service desk enquiries. This position offers £23.51 per hour PAYE and requires delivering a comprehensive payroll service with adherence

Responsibilities

• Assist line management in ensuring timely, efficient and effective delivery of the payroll service, ensuring that performance targets are met.
• Support the ongoing development of the payroll service to achieve measurable efficiencies and enhance service delivery, client expectations and customer experience.
• Administer the Council's payroll and provide all associated services in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures, including: Statutory and contractual maternity pay; Statutory and contractual sick pay, including liaison with managers and HR officers to ensure compliance with statutory requirements; National Insurance benefits; Payment in Lieu of Notice (PILON); Pay awards; Incremental payments; Manual payments.
