Job summary

Willis Towers Watson in Ipswich is seeking a Payroll Analyst to join a busy team handling payroll for ~7,000 UK colleagues, plus Crown Dependencies, Gibraltar, DIFC in the UAE and international assignees. The role is hybrid with three in-office days in Ipswich and occasional additional days around key processing dates.

The team processes remuneration accurately and in compliance with HMRC and internal policies, with opportunities for professional development and payroll qualifications.

Qualifications

• Understanding of UK payroll statutory legislation or willingness to learn.
• Experience in a busy administrative environment.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Clear, concise communication across organisational levels.
• Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Ability to handle confidential information.
• Ability to work independently yet as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in collecting and validating payroll data from HR and other departments.
• Input data accurately and perform audit checks to ensure data integrity.
• Check monthly pay run output documentation.
• Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC rules and company policies.
• Support internal/external audits and ongoing compliance.
• Manage the payroll mailbox and Service Central workflow.
• Respond to basic payroll inquiries and escalate complex issues.
• Deliver professional, customer-focused payroll service.
• Process manual payments via payroll portal as required.
• Provide support to payroll colleagues including senior team members.
• Adhere to deadlines and confidentiality including GDPR considerations.
• Engage in mandatory training and payroll qualification development.
