Job summary

UK Space Jobs is seeking a design-led Mechanical Engineer to join our growing aerospace and defence team in Marlborough. The role focuses on advanced engines, propulsion systems and rotating machinery, combining concept design, testing, validation and implementation in a hybrid, Marlborough-based setting.

You will work with multidisciplinary teams, using CAD and simulation tools to develop robust, manufacturable solutions for high-performance aerospace environments.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience as Mechanical Engineer in aerospace/defence/high-performance environments.
• Strong mechanical design experience involving engines, propulsion systems or complex assemblies.
• Proficient with CAD and simulation software CATIA, SolidWorks, ANSYS.
• Understanding of mechanical systems, thermodynamics, materials and fluid dynamics.
• Ability to translate engineering requirements into manufacturable designs.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong communication skills and experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of advanced mechanical and engine-related systems.
• Create detailed designs for aerospace and defence applications.
• Support engine development programmes from concept to testing.
• Develop testing plans and engineering documentation.
• Perform structural, thermal and fluid dynamic analyses.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams for product integration.
• Support manufacturing and assembly, ensuring quality and compliance.
• Conduct root cause investigations and implement design improvements.
• Research new materials, technologies and manufacturing methods.
• Ensure compliance with aerospace and defence standards.
