Job summary

Focus Group is seeking an IT Solutions Engineer to act as the technical expert for customers, delivering ICT solutions from home with 3–4 days on-site in the Glasgow/Edinburgh area. You’ll mentor peers, design solutions, and lead projects within your specialist area.

You’ll bring SME-level experience in Networking, Server/Storage or Cloud, plus strong troubleshooting and customer-service skills. A UK driving licence is essential for travel to client sites and onsite support.

Qualifications

• Recent experience in an IT support or delivery role.
• Demonstrable subject matter expert-level experience in at least one of these areas: Networking, Server & Storage, Cloud.
• Specialist knowledge in one technology plus a good general technical understanding.
• The confidence to design solutions within your area of expertise.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills.
• Desire to grow your technical knowledge and customer service skills.
• Flexibility to adjust working hours or stay overnight on larger projects.
• A full, valid UK driving licence.
• Curiosity and creativity when finding technical solutions.
• Technical leadership: you share knowledge and inspire others.
• Ability to lead medium-sized projects and be accountable for results.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
• Desirable: Prior IT managed service experience.
• Desirable: Vendor qualifications (Microsoft, Meraki, SonicWall, Aruba, Cisco).
• Desirable: Microsoft certifications such as MS-101, MS-100, AZ-104 or AZ-140.

Responsibilities

• Give customers a high-quality experience when installing or maintaining ICT solutions, on-site or remotely.
• Act as escalation point for your area of expertise, handling complex faults and escalations.
• Collaborate with project management, 3rd Line Engineers and Service Desk Agents.
• Lead delivery of small, medium and large projects within your specialist area.
• Join customer calls to discuss technical needs, scope and design.
• Conduct site surveys and audits; document customer IT infrastructure to a high standard.
• Design best-practice solutions and document them clearly.
• Work with account management, service teams and vendors to deliver project requirements.
• Lead best practices in your specialist area; train and document knowledge for the team.
• Mentor colleagues and provide technical leadership.
