Job summary

USS is seeking an HR Advisor to provide professional first-line HR advice and support to managers and employees, delivering routine and low-complexity people matters while bridging HR Administration and HR Business Partners. The role operates within a hybrid model, offering autonomy and opportunities to influence policy application and employee experience across the University sector.

You'll work with a wide range of stakeholders, ensure governance and data accuracy, and contribute to HR

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of HR policies, procedures and employment practices.
• Experience providing first-line HR advice to managers and employees.
• Proficient in HR systems and employee data management.
• Sound understanding of employment legislation, GDPR, confidentiality requirements and HR governance standards.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as the first point of contact for managers and staff seeking HR advice.
• Provide guidance on policy interpretation and employment practices.
• Support managers in handling low-complexity employee matters.
• Coordinate probation reviews and flexible working requests.
• Escalate complex cases to the HR Business Partner team.
• Assist with parental leave arrangements and absence cases.
• Support salary review processes and HR data reporting.
• Ensure policy compliance and accurate case documentation.
• Contribute to governance and continuous improvement initiatives.
