Job summary

Carrington West is seeking an experienced Highway Engineer for a 6-month initial contract in East Yorkshire, with a strong chance of extension. Hybrid working arrangement: 2 days in the office, 3 days at home.

You will design and deliver highway improvement and maintenance schemes, from feasibility through to construction, liaising with internal teams, contractors and stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.

Qualifications

• Proven highway engineering experience, especially design and scheme delivery.
• Experience delivering schemes from feasibility to construction.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Site3D for 2D/3D designs.
• Experience preparing NEC4 contract documentation and Bills of Quantities.
• Knowledge of highway design standards and construction methods.
• Site supervision and liaison with contractors.
• Experience estimating costs and monitoring budgets.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver highway improvement and maintenance schemes from feasibility to construction.
• Produce 2D and 3D designs using AutoCAD and Site3D.
• Prepare NEC4 contracts, specs, and BoQs for schemes.
• Conduct feasibility studies and detailed design work.
• Prepare cost estimates and monitor project budgets.
• Provide site supervision and support to contractors.
• Review contractor payments and determine valuations.
• Support Highway Capital Programmes across carriageway/footway/road safety schemes.
• Liaise with utilities, permit teams, elected members, contractors, and consultants.
• Offer technical highway engineering guidance to senior staff and juniors.
