Job summary

Malt in London is seeking an Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Compliance strategy for our product engineering team. You will oversee delivery, performance, and people management for the Compliance squads.

This hands-on leadership role shapes safety and integrity of the platform used by freelancers and clients; you will collaborate with Product Director and Design Lead, balance technical debt with ambitious roadmap, and mentor engineers.

Qualifications

• Hands-on manager with technical mentorship through code reviews.
• Strong backend foundation in Java/Kotlin.
• Experience scaling compliance/fintech systems.
• Able to balance security, usability and roadmap.
• Excellent English communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead and inspire a high-performing team of 2–3 squads (8–15 engineers).
• Co-build product and technical strategy with Product Director and Design Lead.
• Own delivery lifecycle by setting KPIs for velocity and quality.
• Contribute to Engineering Manager Guild to scale best practices.
• Own our compliance ecosystem with external partners.
