Job summary

GKN Aerospace Global Technology Centre in Bristol offers a 12-month industrial placement for Year in Industry students. You’ll work on real projects in additive manufacturing, focusing on Laser Metal Deposition by wire (LMDw) and titanium alloys, gaining hands-on experience and mentoring from industry experts.

The role emphasizes autonomy, collaboration, and developing skills across engineering, materials science and software, with a structured selection process and a competitive intern package.

Qualifications

• Must be studying towards an undergraduate degree in any Engineering discipline or Material Science.
• Interest in aerospace and additive manufacturing.
• Willingness to learn new technical skills (software and hardware).
• Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Experience with CAD packages.

Responsibilities

• Support Additive Manufacturing R&D and industrial implementation efforts focusing on LMDw technology.
• Contribute to material characterization, test campaigns, data analysis and design tasks.
• Assist in process simulation, robotic software development and transitioning new technology to production state.
