Job summary

Heelan Associates Ltd is seeking an Accountant based in Waterlooville to join a growing practice. You will manage a portfolio of small business clients, delivering accounts, tax returns and advisory support.

The role combines office work with two days of work-from-home, in a friendly team that values development and client service. You will mentor juniors, handle client communications and improve processes while maintaining high professional standards.

Qualifications

• Must hold membership in a chartered professional body (AAT/ATT/ACCA or equivalent).
• 2+ years of experience in practice handling a diverse client base.
• Experience preparing accounts and tax returns for Sole Traders, Partnerships and Limited Companies.
• Experience using Xero, QuickBooks, DEXT and FreeAgent to produce client work.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, send and submit accounts and tax returns for a client portfolio.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to the accounting team.
• Communicate with clients by phone, email, socials and in person.
• Onboard new clients and integrate them into portfolios.
• Assess and advise on tax positions and tax efficiency.
• Review advisory work including cashflow, budgets and pricing.
• Prepare and review bookkeeping, VAT returns and CIS as required.
• Prepare and conduct year-end client meetings.
• Carry out client fee reviews.
• Support Client Manager and Senior Accountant within the team.
• Maintain electronic filing and client records.
• Liaise with HMRC to resolve queries.
• Provide external training, e.g. client bookkeeping.
• Manage own CPD and learning requirements.
• Ensure HMRC/Companies House information is accurate.
