Job description

At National Grid, we're building the energy systems of the future. As we accelerate the transition to a cleaner, greener energy network, we're investing in the infrastructure, technology and partnerships needed to deliver Net Zero. That's where you come in.

We're looking for an ambitious and strategically minded HVDC Procurement Business Partner to help shape the future of one of the most critical areas of our energy transformation programme.

This is a unique opportunity to influence how National Grid plans, procures and delivers major HVDC infrastructure projects, ensuring we stay ahead of evolving market challenges and supply chain constraints. Whether your background is in strategy, procurement, engineering, commercial management or data analysis, if you're passionate about solving complex challenges and delivering long-term value, we'd love to hear from you.

The role is hybrid with our office based in Warwick so you can enjoy working from home and office.

What you’ll do

As a HVDC Business Strategy Partner, you’ll act as a trusted advisor to both our business and procurement teams, helping to shape procurement and supply chain strategies that support some of the UK's most significant energy projects.

You’ll combine market intelligence, strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement to drive informed decision-making, identify opportunities and mitigate risks across our HVDC portfolio.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and enhancing category strategies for HVDC equipment and services, translating market insights into clear and actionable plans.
  • Providing forward-looking supply chain intelligence, including supplier capacity, lead times and market developments, to support effective planning and forecasting.
  • Partnering with engineering, project, commercial and finance teams to align delivery plans with procurement strategies and business priorities.
  • Supporting portfolio and project governance activities by providing strategic insight into supply chain readiness, risk and deliverability.
  • Producing high-quality analysis, presentations and recommendations that simplify complex information and support executive-level decision making.
  • Contributing to the growth and development of the wider category team by fostering strategic thinking, collaboration and continuous improvement.
What you’ll need

We’re open to candidates from a range of professional backgrounds, including procurement, commercial management, strategy, engineering, energy, data analytics or related disciplines.

You’ll also bring:

  • Experience working within strategy, category management, supply chain, commercial or related functions in large, complex or regulated environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and turn insights into action.
  • The ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with practical delivery considerations.
  • Experience influencing and engaging senior stakeholders across multiple functions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear recommendations.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong working relationships across diverse teams.
  • Experience within the energy sector would be beneficial, but is not essential.

Most importantly, you’ll be passionate about the energy transition and motivated by the opportunity to help deliver the infrastructure needed to support a Net Zero future.
