National Grid is hiring a Senior Technical Assistant - This position is based from our Warwick office however we offer flexible hybrid working options.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a motivated and organised Senior Technical Assistant to support the Power Quality & Dynamic Performance (PQDP) Team in NGET in delivering power quality compliance activities across the transmission network.

The role will focus on coordinating power quality monitoring campaigns, particularly for harmonic compliance assessments associated with customer connections. Working closely with Power System Engineers (PSEs), site engineers and customers, the successful candidate will arrange the deployment of power quality monitors, retrieve and quality-check monitoring data, and provide data measurement to support engineering assessments.

This role involves regular travel to substations or sites and requires strong technical, communication and organisational skills.

Full UK driving licence is required

What You’ll Do

Power Quality Monitoring

  • Coordinate the installation, retrieval of power quality monitoring equipment.
  • Work with Power System Engineers to identify monitoring requirements for customer connections and network investigations.
  • Arrange site access and installation activities with site engineers.
  • Maintain an inventory of monitoring equipment and ensure equipment is available, functional and fit for purpose.
  • Support troubleshooting of monitoring equipment and site installation issues.

Data Collection and Processing

  • Download and manage data from power quality monitoring equipment.
  • Perform basic quality checks on monitoring data and identify missing or invalid measurements.
  • Process and organise measurement data for engineering analysis.
  • Produce harmonic, voltage quality and other power quality datasets required by the PQDP team.
  • Maintain accurate records of monitoring activities and measurement data.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with site engineers, PSEs, and project management teams and customers to coordinate monitoring activities.
  • Build effective working relationships to ensure timely delivery of monitoring programmes.
  • Represent the PQDP team professionally during site visits and engagement with other key stakeholders.

Safety and Compliance

  • Carry out all activities in accordance with company safety rules and procedures.
  • Ensure monitoring equipment is installed and removed safely.
  • Comply with all site access, risk assessment and operational requirements.
About You

  • HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3, apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience and knowledge of using power quality monitoring equipment.
  • Familiarity with substations and high-voltage environments.
  • Experience with power quality monitoring platforms and software.
  • Basic data analysis and reporting skills.
What You’ll Get

A competitive salary between £36,000 – £39,000 dependent on capability

As well as your base salary, you will receive

  • 26 days holiday, plus eight statutory days, an option to buy extra holiday days, and the option to holiday swap up to 3 bank holiday days

  • A generous pension scheme, double matched up to 6% of your salary each month. For every £1 you contribute we’ll put in another £2, so if you put in 6%, we’ll add 12% giving a total of 18% to your pension pot
