Job summary

Hollybank Trustees Ltd seeks an experienced Time-served HVAC Pipefitter/Welder to lead mechanical installations across NHS healthcare, education, and industrial sectors in Scotland and beyond. You’ll read drawings, manage trades, and supervise apprentices ensuring safe, timely delivery.

You will mentor junior staff, maintain quality standards and coordinate with project managers to keep programmes on track. A recognised apprenticeship and welding qualifications are essential.

Qualifications

• Recognised apprenticeship in Pipefitting, Heating & Ventilating or Mechanical Building Services.
• SVQ/NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Eng. Services (Pipefitting) or equivalent.
• CSCS, SJIB or ECS trade card.
• Proven experience delivering commercial and industrial HVAC installations.
• Welding qualifications relevant to role with a minimum TR5 standard MMA.

Responsibilities

• Supervise pipefitters, welders, HVAC engineers, apprentices and subcontractors.
• Lead day-to-day mechanical installation activities.
• Coordinate labour resources and work activities.
• Order materials ahead of requirements to ensure efficiency.
• Ensure adherence with company rules including timekeeping and operatives breaks.
• Allocate work in accordance with programme requirements and project priorities.
• Monitor productivity, quality of workmanship and progress.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to site personnel.
• Liaise with Project Managers, Engineers, Main Contractors and other trades.
• Attend coordination, planning and progress meetings.
• Promote a positive health, safety and quality culture.
• Lead by example in all aspects of professionalism and site conduct.
• Read and interpret construction drawings, schematics, P&IDs and specifications.
• Understand HVAC and mechanical services systems and installation requirements.
• Ensure installations comply with drawings and standards.
• Identify design/coordination/buildability issues and elevate accordingly.
• Assist with technical queries and RFIs.
• Carry out setting out and measurement of mechanical services installations.
• Assist with material take-offs and procurement requirements.
• Identify labour, plant and equipment requirements.
• Inspect incoming materials and plant deliveries.
• Ensure correct installation methodologies are followed.
• Supervise welding activities and ensure compliance with procedures.
• Monitor pressure testing, flushing, water treatment and commissioning.
• Support with delays, variations and additional works.
