Job summary

Bimplus is recruiting an HVAC Engineer to join a major Data Centre contract in Canary Wharf, London. The role focuses on the maintenance of data centre plant and cooling infrastructure, ensuring safe, reliable operations and optimal energy performance.

You will work on Indirect Adiabatic Cooling systems, AHUs, pumps and associated controls, with fault diagnosis and continuous improvement of resilience and efficiency in mission-critical environments.

Qualifications

• Recognised or time-served apprenticeship in mechanical/electrical engineering.
• Extensive experience maintaining HVAC in data centre or critical environments.
• F-Gas certification and refrigerant handling experience.
• Strong fault-finding, diagnostic and multidisciplinary skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on HVAC plant, equipment and building services.
• Fault find and service VRV/VRF air conditioning and cooling systems.
• Operate, maintain and optimise Indirect Adiabatic Cooling (IAC) for data halls.
• Monitor cooling plant performance via BMS and EPMS systems.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, controls and performance faults affecting cooling systems.

Job description

My client is a leading global provider of integrated facilities management and they are recruiting for a HVAC Engineer to join a well-known Data Centre contract, located in Canary Wharf.

As the HVAC Technician for Data Centres, you will be responsible for the electrical and mechanical maintenance of data centre plant and equipment, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment. You will play a key role in maintaining HVAC systems, with a focus on cooling infrastructure supporting Data Hall environments.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience operating, maintaining and fault-finding Indirect Adiabatic Cooling (IAC) systems and supporting critical cooling infrastructure that underpins Data Centre operations.

You will contribute to site resilience, energy efficiency, cooling optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety, housekeeping and engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on HVAC plant, equipment and building services.
• Fault find and maintain a wide range of HVAC systems, including VRV/VRF air conditioning systems.
• Operate, maintain and optimise Indirect Adiabatic Cooling (IAC) systems serving mission-critical Data Hall environments.
• Ensure cooling infrastructure operates efficiently and reliably to maintain Data Hall temperature and humidity within operational parameters.
• Monitor cooling plant performance through BMS, EPMS systems.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance, inspections and testing of IAC equipment, AHUs, heat exchangers, fans, pumps, valves and associated mechanical systems.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, controls and performance-related faults affecting critical cooling systems.
• Support emergency response activities relating to cooling plant failures and critical infrastructure incidents.
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) following equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
• Verify cooling redundancy arrangements and resilience strategies remain effective and available.
• Identify risks to plant and equipment, including critical spares management and lifecycle replacement planning.
• Analyse plant performance trends and identify opportunities to improve reliability, energy efficiency and cooling performance.
• Complete and improve preventative maintenance programmes.
• Follow Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Permits to Work.
• Use CAFM systems and mobile devices to manage maintenance tasks and asset information.
• Recognised or time-served apprenticeship.
• Proven experience in HVAC maintenance within commercial, critical or Data Centre environments.
• Strong mechanical competence (City & Guilds or equivalent).
• F-Gas certification and experience handling refrigerants.
• Multiskilled maintenance capability.
• Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
