Reporting to the Commissioning Manager and based remotely in the UK with approximately 90% travel, the Substation Commissioning Engineer is responsible for ensuring all site testing, commissioning, and installation activities are carried out to the highest standards of Health, Safety, and Quality, while safeguarding the Environment.

This includes maintaining compliance with GE Grid and client policies and procedures, as well as UK and international regulations.

Job Details

• Location: Remote from UK or France, with significant travel across UK & Europe.
• Ensure all site commissioning and installation activities meet safety, quality, and environmental standards.
• Test, commission, and service primary and secondary equipment during construction and operation.
• Manage project execution in line with client and GE expectations, schedules, and budgets.
• Maintain accurate documentation and reports in accordance with GE standards.
• Collaborate effectively within project teams.
• Travel as required, estimated at 90%.
• Work on offshore wind farms is also required.
• Full UK/EU driving license is required; a company car will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing and commissioning of substation equipment efficiently.
• Prepare and issue site documentation including RAMS, NCRs, and TQs.
• Communicate site issues to the project team.
• Report to Site Manager, Project Manager, and Commissioning Manager.
• Act as LV Authorized Person per GE LV Safe System of Work.
• Adhere to GE's code of ethics.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with Substation Protection Systems, HV and LV Switchgear testing, fault finding, and field services.
• Experience with SCADA systems, protection and control system communication, and third-party IED integration.
• Site experience, including working at heights and in construction environments.
• Knowledge of IEC standards, GE Micom and Multilin products, and testing equipment like Omicron and Megger.
