About the role

We are looking for an HR Specialist to deliver HR operations and advice across the full employee lifecycle. You will give managers and employees clear, practical guidance, handle employee relations and absence cases with care, and make sure every people process —from offer to exit, payroll to visas — is accurate, compliant and on time. It is a hands-on role for someone who combines operational rigour with sound judgement, and who cares about engagement, wellbeing and making HR simpler.

Main responsibilities
  • Primary HR point of contact: Own operational HR matters and give clear, balanced and people-centred advice to employees and managers, taking queries and cases through to resolution within agreed service levels.
  • Policy guidance: Interpret and explain HR policies, procedures and employment law in a practical, straightforward way, and track regulatory developments to support approved policy and process updates.
  • Manager coaching: Build line manager confidence through practical guidance on performance, attendance, conduct and process steps, reinforcing inclusive and effective ways of working.
  • Employee relations: Manage a range of cases with care and professionalism — from early fact-finding to letters, meetings and evidence files — in line with the ACAS Code, escalating complex matters where needed.
  • Absence and wellbeing: Support sickness absence, occupational health referrals, reasonable adjustments and income protection claims, and handle flexible working and family leave requests within legal deadlines, making sure everyone understands the next steps.
  • Employee lifecycle: Support recruitment and coordinate people processes from offer and onboarding through probation, changes and leavers, preparing contracts, amendments and letters from approved templates and completing approvals, system updates and notifications on time.
  • Payroll and benefits: Own monthly payroll administration with the provider and Finance, auditing HR system changes before each payroll run, and manage the benefits portfolio end to end, from provider sourcing and renewal negotiations to day-to-day administration and P11D.
  • Immigration and compliance: Own UKVI sponsor licence compliance — Certificates of Sponsorship, SMS reporting, visa tracking and Right to Work — and keep contracts, policies and records compliant with employment law and UK GDPR.
  • Contingent workforce and vendors: Coordinate administration for outsourced and contingent workers with agencies and umbrella providers, and manage HR vendor relationships to keep service consistent and compliant.
  • Engagement, inclusion and communications: Prepare engagement survey reporting, support follow-up actions with managers, and promote inclusion, engagement and wellbeing through thoughtful, accessible activities, and help shape people updates for team meetings, manager briefings and company-wide communications.
  • Data and insight: Prepare concise HR reports on headcount, turnover, absence and engagement, identifying themes and actions that support informed decisions.
  • HR systems and AI-enabled improvement: Own the day-to-day running of internal HR systems and data, map and optimise people processes, and use AI tools and automated workflows to remove manual work, strengthen controls and improve self-service for employees and managers. Contribute to wider HR projects and system implementations.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Know UK employment law, employment contracts and UK GDPR, and apply them practically to everyday cases; knowledge of Irish employment law is a plus.
  • Understand UK immigration and sponsor licence requirements and the compliance risks of employing people across borders.
  • Handle sensitive employee relations matters with discretion, resolving conflict and de-escalating situations professionally.
  • Work independently with limited guidance, while collaborating well with managers, colleagues and vendors across countries and time zones.
  • Organise well, manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy under pressure in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Think analytically, assess risk and solve problems proactively, using data and AI tools to improve how HR works, with a strong focus on data integrity.
  • Communicate clearly and authentically in English, adapting your style across cultures and channels; Mandarin Chinese is a plus.
  • Bring cultural awareness and help build an inclusive, respectful workplace.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold ethical HR practice.
  • Learn quickly and adapt to changing regulations and business needs.
Experience and qualifications
  • CIPD Level 5 or a degree in HR, business or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in an HR Generalist or HR Advisor role in the UK, in an organisation of comparable size and complexity, including hands-on employee relations casework.
  • Experience with payroll, benefits administration and Right to Work checks; UKVI sponsor licence experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing HR vendors such as payroll, benefits, agency or umbrella providers is a plus, as is experience in a global or multinational environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Teams and HR information systems.
