Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Human Resource Manager to lead and grow our developing HR department. This role requires a strong generalist background and the ability to work collaboratively with leadership and employees to support the business. The HR Manager will oversee day-to-day HR operations while also playing a strategic role in deploying and shaping HR initiatives such as staffing, workforce planning, employee engagement, and talent development.

The Human Resource Manager will provide leadership and direction to the HR team, working closely with our HR Generalist & Administrator to ensure consistent and effective HR support across the business. The ideal candidate will bring both hands-on HR experience and the ability to coach, mentor, and lead others.

Hours/Contract: 37.5 hours per week/Full Time/Permanent

Reports to: Director of Finance & Admin

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides support and guidance to HR generalists, management, and other staff when complex, specialised, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodation, investigating allegations and termination.
  • Oversee employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations. Assists with employee relations issues to include counseling management, conducting investigations, consulting with in-house legal, and conducting company disciplinary hearings.
  • Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial and specialist roles, collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Assists in the deployment of key communications, ownership of issues, policy changes, including but not exhaustive, employee relations, performance management.
  • Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
  • Oversee the Human Resource Team with a keen interest in developing and upskilling.
  • Provides guidance to business leaders on employee relations and HR specific questions/issues.
  • Ensures the deployment of HR strategies within the various business units, including but not limited to staffing, workforce planning, employee engagement, talent development, career progression and recognition.
  • Creates and evaluates reports and metrics as needed to ensure continual improvement and department efficiency.
  • Updating of the company staff handbook.
  • Develops, implements, and actively participates in employee engagement activities.
  • Supporting improvement in Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility.
  • Oversee & assist with department administrative work.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the HR team, fostering collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
  • Oversee the implementation of HR strategies across business units, including but not limited to recruitment, performance management, employee engagement, recognition, and compensation.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on complex HR matters, including employee relations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Support organisational change efforts and ensure HR practices align with business objectives.
  • Collaborate on workforce planning and succession strategies to ensure sustainable team development and talent retention.
  • Conduct investigations and manage sensitive employee relations issues in partnership with legal counsel as needed.
  • Review HR policies, procedures, and the staff handbook in line with best practices and legal requirements.
  • Develop and track HR metrics to assess the effectiveness of HR programs and support data-driven decisions.
  • Champion Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) initiatives across the business.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of internal HR training for managers and employees.
  • Oversee and support HR administrative functions such as onboarding, background checks, and reporting.
  • Participate in and lead employee engagement initiatives to promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Perform additional HR-related duties as required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate in written English.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and diligence with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, delegate them when appropriate and work to deadlines.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organisation’s HRIS and talent management systems.
  • Able to work independently and with a team as needed.

Experience/Education/Certifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent, with CIPD accreditation at Level 5 or above.
  • Five + years’ human resources experience.
  • Experience with various HRIS and recruiting platforms preferred.

Other General Requirements/Additional Notes

  • Occasional travel is required.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
