Job summary

Markel Corporation is seeking an Underwriter for Hull & War based in London. You will work with the hull team, actuarial and other parts of the business to implement underwriting strategy and monitor progress.

This role focuses on supporting and developing its part within One London Market and Markel’s Marine Division. You will engage in continuous improvement, engage with brokers and clients, manage referrals, and help drive portfolio performance through disciplined underwriting and risk

Qualifications

• Detailed understanding of hull and war insurance market.
• Strong numerical and analytical ability.
• Proficiency with MS Word and Excel.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Knowledge of underwriting insights and data analysis.
• Familiarity with actuarial concepts.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with class head, hull team, actuarial and others to implement underwriting strategy.
• Champion process improvements across end-to-end data workflows.
• Demonstrate disciplined underwriting practices and guidelines.
• Attend broker and client meetings; travel as required.
• Provide underwriting support to overseas offices and manage referrals.
• Support portfolio management with class head and senior underwriters.
• Identify business opportunities aligned with the plan and contribute to project work.
