Job summary

Markel Corporation seeks an experienced hull and war underwriter to join the London Market team. You will support and develop the Hull portfolio across global clients, collaborating with actuarial, claims, and other internal groups.

You will participate in broker meetings, apply underwriting controls, and assist overseas offices with referrals, while contributing to portfolio strategy in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Proven understanding of hull and war insurance markets and trends.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with data-driven mindset.
• Proficiency in MS Word and Excel for analysis and reporting.
• Clear written and spoken communication; team collaboration essential.

Responsibilities

• Support underwriting strategy alongside class head and Hull team.
• Attend broker and client meetings; travel as required.
• Apply underwriting authority, guidelines, and risk controls.
• Provide underwriting support to overseas offices and referrals.

The hull team writes a diverse hull and war portfolio on a worldwide basis with particular focus on North America, Northern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Products can be tailored to meet requirements of clients, from smaller local / domestic companies to global operations. Markel is a recognised leader of hull and war business with a successful history in the class. The underwriting team is supported by our experienced, in-house claims team.
