This is an exciting opportunity to join SECOM's High Security Division. We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Technical Support Manager to lead our technical support operations. Reporting directly to Terry Taylor, Divisional Operations Director, this is a critical hybrid role where you will serve as the essential link between our IT infrastructure, field engineering teams, and high-value clients operating in highly sensitive environments.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong, practical engineering background coupled with advanced IT skills, capable of bridging the gap between physical security hardware and complex IP-based network environments. You will split your time between remote technical support management, working from various SECOM offices as needed, bringing innovation to our customers through new product trials, and travelling to secure customer sites (including potential offshore locations) to host client meetings, assist field engineers with complex integrations, and oversee system troubleshooting. In this capacity, you will work closely with field supervisors and the senior management team to ensure technical excellence and strategic alignment across all projects.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
- Work closely with field supervisors and the senior management team to ensure seamless project delivery, operational efficiency, and alignment with overarching business strategies.
- Serve as the highest point of escalation (Tier 3) for complex technical issues related to IP CCTV, Access Control, Biometrics, and Intruder Alarm systems within high-security deployments.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of remote and field-based technical support engineers.
- Bridge the gap between client IT network infrastructures and SECOM's electronic security hardware, ensuring seamless, secure integration on closed or heavily restricted networks.
- Create and maintain stringent technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and system configuration guides aligned with high-security compliance standards.
- Bring innovation to our high-security customers by proactively sourcing, testing, and trialling new electronic security products and technologies.
- Evaluate emerging solutions to ensure they meet the rigorous compliance, encryption, and operational standards required for high-risk deployments before rolling them out to the field.
- Undertake potential travel to offshore manufacturer sites to evaluate, test, and consult on the latest security hardware and software developments.
- Host and lead technical meetings with clients to consult on system requirements, project progress, technology roadmaps, and tailored security solutions.
- Travel regularly to secure and restricted customer sites, including potential offshore client locations, to support installation engineers during complex system deployments and commissioning phases.
- Conduct on-site troubleshooting for critical system failures that cannot be resolved remotely to minimise client downtime.
- Liaise directly with clients' internal IT and security departments to manage network requirements, port forwarding, firewall rules, and secure IP allocations.
- Deliver hands‑on technical training and product demonstrations to both field engineers and end‑users.
Core Technical Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must have deep, demonstrable expertise in the following security domains:
- IP CCTV Systems: Advanced knowledge of IP cameras, NVRs, and enterprise Video Management Systems (VMS), including network topology, bandwidth calculation, and video encryption.
- Access Control: Comprehensive understanding of multi‑door networked access control systems, server/client architecture, and third‑party integrations suited for high‑security environments.
- Biometrics: Experience deploying and troubleshooting advanced biometric readers (facial recognition, fingerprint, iris) and integrating them with central secure databases.
- Intruder Alarms: Strong background in the installation, programming, and fault‑finding of commercial/enterprise‑grade intruder alarm systems.
Qualifications & Experience
- Engineering Background: Strong practical background and foundational knowledge in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline (recognised vocational qualifications, apprenticeships, or extensive field experience are highly valued).
- Advanced IT Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of networking principles (TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, switches, routers, VLANs), Active Directory, Windows Server environments, and basic database management (SQL).
- Industry Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the electronic security industry, ideally with exposure to high‑security, government, or critical national infrastructure sites.
- Mobility & Location: Willingness and ability to travel frequently to customer and manufacturer sites, including potential offshore locations, with access to various SECOM offices as required. A valid passport and a clean driving licence are essential.
- Security Clearance: Due to the nature of the High Security Division, candidates must be able to pass stringent background checks (e.g., BS7858) and be willing to undergo higher‑level security clearances (e.g., SC or DV) if required.
- Communication & Client Facing Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the proven ability to host client meetings, collaborate effectively with senior leadership, and confidently explain complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders and IT professionals alike.
What We Offer
- Competitive base salary and performance bonus reflective of the high‑security sector.
- Company vehicle or car allowance.
- Hybrid working flexibility (combination of home, field work, and access to regional offices).
- Continuous manufacturer training and IT certification support.
- Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance and pension scheme.
